Getting to Know Your Guitar

Getting to Know Your Guitar
Saturday, Apr 2 | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre

$35 | All Ages –

Get introduced to your guitar! This includes the different parts of your guitar, what they do, and how to use them. The workshop will continue with some basic understanding of how the guitar is tuned, alternate tunings, and using a capo. This will lead to some music theory and how to apply it to the guitar and what potential this can bring for playing the guitar. We will finish off with playing some music incorporating some of the knowledge we have learned.

Brad Shipley makes music on many stringed contraptions including the guitar, mandolin, lap steel, 4 and 5-string banjos, and even the humble ukulele. He enjoys jazz, swing, bluegrass, R&B, and musical theater. Brad holds a degree in Jazz studies and is currently the music director for the Gabriola Chamber ensemble.

Materials to bring: Guitar (optional), notebook, pencil/pen.
