Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre

Lys Glassford & Lauren Semple

How, through public art, can we engage and beautify our communities? Join artists Lys Glassford and Lauren Semple, founders of the Humanity in Community Foundation, for a discussion on the important role public art can play in community building and local cultural development.

Humanity in Art was founded in 2013 by Nanaimo street artist Lys Glassford and became well known for street art commissions and community improvement projects. Lauren Semple joined in 2017 and together they formed the Humanity in Community Foundation to support local street artists and public art rehabilitation projects. 2020 will see this dynamic duo launch an annual mural festival in Nanaimo, Hub City Walls.
