Learn how to create a “catalogue poem” and then incorporate selected words from your poem as graffiti into paintings using the “safety pin” motif as an expression of support for cultural and lifestyle diversity. This is a great opportunity to explore a simple poetic form and learn about using text in visual compositions.

Carla Stein’s love of language led to a career in broadcast and freelance journalism. Her art and poetry has been featured in magazines and in anthologies. She is a co-founder of 15 Minutes of Infamy, a Nanaimo-based word craft performance venue.

Materials to bring: Notebook, pen, apron/old shirt, container for washing brushes, rags, lunch.
